Russia has so far failed in one of its key objectives to capture the entire Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine.
It has managed to take neighbouring region Luhansk, but heavy fighting is still ensuing across Donetsk.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has now been forced to extend his deadline for taking the region from 31 August to 15 September, according to the Ukrainian General Staff.
