On Friday the Icelandic Directorate of Health in collaboration with deCODE genetics started screening for COVID-19 in healthy people who have no symptoms. First results are out and indicate that 1% of the Icelandic population has COVID-19 right now, which means ~3,200 people.
Until this healthy screening started, the health authorities had been focusing their testing only on people coming from the red zone countries (Italy and Austria mostly), which means the test samples were selected. So far 1868 samples have been taken from symptomatic patients and 161 cases confirmed positive (~9-10%).
