1. No, the claim is exaggerated. China's social credit system uses blacklists for violations like unpaid debts, restricting travel or luxury purchases, but no unified score exists, and there's no confirmed evidence of it causing tens of thousands to become homeless. Sources like MERICS and Wikipedia clarify it's more myth than reality for such outcomes.
2. "This is wild. We can never allow this to happen here in the US." :D

A U.S. credit score is a three-digit number that estimates a person's likelihood of repaying debts on time, with scores typically ranging from 300 to 850. This score is based on information in your credit report and is used by lenders and other companies to assess risk, which influences their decisions on whether to approve credit, determine interest rates, set credit limits, and screen for rentals or utilities.

China's Social Credit System (SCS) is a national rating system for individuals and businesses, although it is a fragmented collection of pilot schemes rather than a single, unified national score. It tracks trustworthiness based on financial, judicial, and increasingly, social behaviors, with the goal of encouraging positive conduct and penalizing negative actions. High scores can lead to benefits like easier loan access, while low scores can result in consequences such as restrictions on travel or public shaming.
