Brussels Attacks Fuel Push to Close Off Militants’ Highway

The Brussels bombings have accelerated U.S. efforts to close off the last remaining Islamic State route out of Syria through Turkey, which officials suspect was the main thoroughfare for militants who carried out deadly attacks in Belgium and France.
On Wednesday, top U.S. diplomats pressed Turkey to embrace a proposal to rely on American-backed Kurdish fighters to shut down the highway, which the militant group has used to send dozens of attackers across Europe.
In the weeks leading up to Tuesday’s attack, Western officials expressed increasing alarm about the continued flow of Islamic State extremists across this 60-mile stretch of the Turkey-Syria border.
But Turkey has long opposed working with the Kurdish forces it considers terrorists. That, along with its renewed push for the creation of a safe zone in Syria, has so far kept the two sides apart on any agreement. Islamic State has been able to capitalize on the impasse to keep sending fighters in-and-out of Syria, U.S. officials said.

kako pričakovano.

samo če bo šlo tako naprej se bodo turki zaklali. če bodo kurdi ratali res močni pa zečeli s svojo državo bo to mogoče zgolj zaradi šibkega asada. so na to turki sploh pomislili? irak se pa tudi vrjetno ne preveč uporal če bi hoteli kurdi na svoje. potem še turčijo razkosat pa bo ziher precej bolj mirno vse skupaj.

Russian soldier killed in Palmyra: Interfax

Last Thursday, Al-Masdar News reported the death of a Russian military adviser during a fierce battle with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) in the Palmyra (Tadmur) countryside. One week later, the Russian news site “Interfax” reported the death of a Special Forces operative that was killed in Palmyra, citing a Russian military source at the Khmeimim (Hmaymim) Airbase in Jableh, Latakia. According to Interfax, “while performing a special task to direct Russian airstrikes onto terrorist targets, a Russian special forces officer was killed.” “The soldier died heroically, calling the strike onto himself after he was discovered and surrounded by terrorists”, the Russian news site added. ISIS posted a video of a Russian soldiers that was killed last week; however, the Russian Defense Ministry did not issue a statement regarding this allegation. The name and rank of the officer is still unknown; it has not been announced by the Russian Defense Ministry or state television.

Seveda. In se tudi bom vedno ob takšni trditvi, da države, ki jih zasede zahodna koalicija cvetijo na polno medtem, ko države pod Rusijo propadajo na polno. Verjamem pa, da se ti tej izjavi ne smejiš.
