Način 1:
It is slightly different with the HTC Sense UI, but you pointed me in the right direction.
It's called People on the Hero, not Contacts, but I opened 'People', went to Groups tab, and pressing menu I had the option "Sync Groups".
I pressed that and it gave me the options:
- Sync all contacts
- My Contacts
So, I unticked 'Sync all', hit save, and voila!
Now have 233 contacts, all named the correct way instead of 1194!!

Open contacts > menu > Settings > Edit sync groups. Select "Sync all contacts", "My Contacts" or "Starred in Android".

For HTC sense do the following, contacts (people) > Groups tab > menu > Sync Groups.
